The Changing of the Guard | The Pardons of John Bell Edwards and Gov. Jeff Landry's Solution

In this episode of Bloody Angola, we explore the recent transition of power with the election of Governor Jeff Landry as it relates to crime and the recent pardons of outgoing Louisiana Governor John Bell Edwards..

Previous governor, John Bel Edwards, is known for his leniency in crime and numerous acts of clemency. We delve into the governor's authority to grant sentence commutation, the role of the pardon board in reviewing applications, and the different types of clemency that exist.

We focus on the actions of John Bel Edwards, who commuted the sentences of 70 prisoners and pardoned 56 inmates, including those convicted of murder.

We move on to discuss high-profile murder cases from St. Tammany Parish. The prominent cases of David Daniel Rushing, who initially faced a first-degree murder charge but later claimed intoxication, and Frederick Kirkpatrick, who was convicted of first-degree murder and express our disgust at the pardons that allow these criminals to have their records cleared.

Transitioning to the current governor, Jeff Landry, known for his tough stance on crime, Landry stands firm on his commitment to restoring law and order. We discuss his intentions to crack down on district attorneys and hold them accountable for failing to prosecute criminals.
