Part 2 of a 2 part series: In July 2017, the peaceful suburbs of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, were rocked by a string of disappearances that quickly turned into one of the most disturbing murder cases in recent American history. Over the course of just three days, four young men—Jimi Patrick, Dean Finocchiaro, Thomas Meo, and Mark Sturgis—vanished after heading out to what they believed were routine marijuana deals. They never came home. What they walked into was a nightmare orchestrated by 20-year-old Cosmo DiNardo and his cousin Sean Kratz. Lured to the DiNardo family’s sprawling farm in Solebury Township, the victims were shot and killed in cold blood. Their bodies were buried on the property in a frantic attempt to hide the crimes.

00:00:05.639 --> 00:00:23.920
Hm, I walk straight line shackle change. Oh someome girdie,

2
00:00:25.879 --> 00:00:32.320
it's calling my name. There is no mercy and it's

3
00:00:32.359 --> 00:00:42.119
been a tentery juice as the huge stream game Wrangle three.

4
00:00:42.719 --> 00:00:47.840
Come here be by me to die.

5
00:00:49.479 --> 00:00:54.719
Inside these walls, inside the wild.

6
00:00:56.240 --> 00:00:59.719
And when the girls as.

7
00:00:59.600 --> 00:01:35.040
I Hey everyone, and welcome back to Bloody Angla. This

8
00:01:35.120 --> 00:01:40.159
is part two of the fifty Shades of Evil Pennsylvania episode.

9
00:01:40.239 --> 00:01:42.879
So if you haven't heard part one, I released that

10
00:01:43.040 --> 00:01:46.040
last week, go check that out, so you'll be all

11
00:01:46.120 --> 00:01:49.959
caught up for right now. And the last time that

12
00:01:50.040 --> 00:01:54.159
I left you, police were searching that ninety acre property

13
00:01:54.319 --> 00:01:57.680
owned by Cosmo Denorder his family, and they had just

14
00:01:58.040 --> 00:02:02.480
found Dean finn Caro's missing phone. So we're gonna pick

15
00:02:02.560 --> 00:02:08.280
up there. And as that search continues, Jimmy's parents arrived

16
00:02:08.280 --> 00:02:13.120
at that property. Now remember Jimmy's phone last pinned fifty

17
00:02:13.360 --> 00:02:17.439
miles from this massive property, so his grandparents were told

18
00:02:17.639 --> 00:02:20.479
and they were not even sure he was involved with

19
00:02:20.680 --> 00:02:25.159
any of these other missing boys. But it was about

20
00:02:25.240 --> 00:02:29.560
that time that police got an updated report from the

21
00:02:29.680 --> 00:02:33.800
cell company and they were saying there was actually another

22
00:02:33.840 --> 00:02:37.520
ping that was much closer to that property. If not

23
00:02:37.639 --> 00:02:42.639
on that property. So a big disappointment and shock there

24
00:02:42.840 --> 00:02:46.719
for that family as they realized he likely is tied

25
00:02:46.759 --> 00:02:50.439
in with these other missing boys. Now another shock when

26
00:02:50.599 --> 00:02:54.919
Cosmo actually bails out of jail. Now remember he was

27
00:02:54.960 --> 00:02:59.879
being held on over a million dollar bond, but it's Pennsylvania,

28
00:03:00.039 --> 00:03:03.639
and in Pennsylvania only ten percent of that bond do

29
00:03:03.719 --> 00:03:06.240
you have to make in cash. So he was able

30
00:03:06.319 --> 00:03:10.840
to bail out on one hundred thousand dollars bond courtesy

31
00:03:10.879 --> 00:03:13.960
of his father. So the search continues. In a couple

32
00:03:14.039 --> 00:03:17.439
of days into that search, still nothing as far as

33
00:03:17.560 --> 00:03:22.759
any sign of bodies of these boys, etc. Then on

34
00:03:22.800 --> 00:03:27.479
the third day of that search, a major breakthrough. Searchers

35
00:03:27.520 --> 00:03:30.879
come across a large pile of rocks in what looked

36
00:03:31.000 --> 00:03:35.319
like disturb ground on that property. So they start digging

37
00:03:35.439 --> 00:03:37.759
that area. Now, this is going to take a little

38
00:03:37.759 --> 00:03:40.680
while because they don't just go in there with bulldozers

39
00:03:40.759 --> 00:03:44.680
and backos and things like that and start digging into

40
00:03:44.719 --> 00:03:48.159
the ground. They actually use shovels, and they have to

41
00:03:48.199 --> 00:03:50.960
be very careful because if they come across anything and

42
00:03:51.000 --> 00:03:54.560
they damage it while digging, you could be damaging a

43
00:03:54.840 --> 00:03:58.719
major piece of evidence. So they start digging, and what

44
00:03:58.759 --> 00:04:02.240
they're noticing as they're digging this hole is they'll go

45
00:04:02.439 --> 00:04:06.479
like say, three feet down and they'll have grass that

46
00:04:06.680 --> 00:04:10.639
was still alive three feet down, And that tells you

47
00:04:10.759 --> 00:04:13.960
that that dirt has been piled on top of each

48
00:04:14.000 --> 00:04:17.360
other pretty recently, because the grass wouldn't exist, it would

49
00:04:17.399 --> 00:04:20.040
be dead if it was underground and not getting sunlight.

50
00:04:20.160 --> 00:04:23.319
They continue digging further after they noticed that. In about

51
00:04:23.480 --> 00:04:30.160
six feet down, they start noticing a smell, the unmistakable

52
00:04:30.240 --> 00:04:34.560
smell of decaying flesh. Now they know at this point

53
00:04:34.639 --> 00:04:38.800
they're getting close to probably uncovering something, but they didn't

54
00:04:38.800 --> 00:04:43.439
want to take any chances of Cosmo hearing this and

55
00:04:43.519 --> 00:04:48.360
skipping town, knowing they were digging in that spot where

56
00:04:48.439 --> 00:04:53.279
he likely hid the bodies of these young men. But

57
00:04:53.319 --> 00:04:56.519
they had a problem. He was out of jail on bond,

58
00:04:56.800 --> 00:04:59.079
so they had to come up with a reason to

59
00:04:59.240 --> 00:05:03.480
arrest him again, and they did. They actually charged him

60
00:05:03.879 --> 00:05:07.000
because they had enough evidence at this point in time

61
00:05:07.439 --> 00:05:11.600
for attempting to sell Thomas Mayo's car. So at this

62
00:05:11.759 --> 00:05:15.959
point Cosmo he gets a second arrest and he goes

63
00:05:16.040 --> 00:05:20.120
to jail, and this time they learned from his bail

64
00:05:20.399 --> 00:05:24.439
from last time, and they upped it to five million dollars, which,

65
00:05:24.480 --> 00:05:28.720
even when you got Cosmo Donardo's family money, that's a

66
00:05:28.759 --> 00:05:30.839
lot of bail to have to come up with. Now,

67
00:05:30.920 --> 00:05:34.120
detectives kept digging and as they're digging down they come

68
00:05:34.160 --> 00:05:37.040
across a boot. Now just below that, they start hitting

69
00:05:37.160 --> 00:05:40.279
metal and they're like, man, what the hell is this? Well,

70
00:05:40.279 --> 00:05:45.040
it ended up being a tank that had been repurposed,

71
00:05:45.040 --> 00:05:48.759
if you will, into a pig roaster and it was

72
00:05:48.879 --> 00:05:52.839
covered by a blue tarp. So they dig this tank

73
00:05:53.319 --> 00:05:58.480
slash pig roaster out of the ground and shockingly, three

74
00:05:59.279 --> 00:06:05.160
bodies were discovered, partially burned, and those bodies were confirmed

75
00:06:05.199 --> 00:06:10.680
to be the remains of Thomas Mayo, Dean Finnicaro, and

76
00:06:10.920 --> 00:06:16.000
Mark Sturgis. However, there was no sign of Jimmy, so

77
00:06:16.079 --> 00:06:20.519
they continued searching no luck, and with nowhere else to look,

78
00:06:21.079 --> 00:06:24.079
they get a Cosmo who was in jail, remember on

79
00:06:24.120 --> 00:06:27.959
that five million dollar bail this time, and they tell him, look,

80
00:06:28.199 --> 00:06:31.079
we're gonna make you a deal. We already know, we

81
00:06:31.120 --> 00:06:34.759
already found the three bodies of these other young men,

82
00:06:35.199 --> 00:06:38.959
but we never found Jimmy's body. And if you'll tell

83
00:06:39.040 --> 00:06:42.560
us where you buried him. We will pull the death

84
00:06:42.600 --> 00:06:45.680
penalty off the table. And he agrees to that, and

85
00:06:45.720 --> 00:06:49.000
he also agrees to cooperate as part of this deal,

86
00:06:49.199 --> 00:06:53.439
and Cosmo tells them the entire story, y'all. So with

87
00:06:53.560 --> 00:06:57.199
a deal in place, he starts talking and he recounts

88
00:06:57.279 --> 00:07:02.240
an unbelievable story. He said, he is killing spree if

89
00:07:02.240 --> 00:07:06.399
you will. Started with Jimmy Patrick. He told police he

90
00:07:06.480 --> 00:07:09.639
was serving as a middleman and a drug deal and

91
00:07:09.680 --> 00:07:12.720
in this particular deal, he was not gonna make any money.

92
00:07:12.759 --> 00:07:15.079
He said, look, I was just a middle man. I

93
00:07:15.120 --> 00:07:17.959
was trying to help two people out and I was

94
00:07:18.000 --> 00:07:22.079
getting Jimmy a good price on a large quantity of weed.

95
00:07:22.639 --> 00:07:26.040
He said. Jimmy picked him up. And according to Cosmo,

96
00:07:26.160 --> 00:07:28.879
when they arrived at the meeting spot to make that

97
00:07:29.000 --> 00:07:32.319
drug deal, he turns to Jimmy and he asked for,

98
00:07:33.120 --> 00:07:36.680
according to him, eight thousand dollars to make this drug deal.

99
00:07:37.040 --> 00:07:39.600
And Jimmy says, eight thousand dollars. I thought you said

100
00:07:39.639 --> 00:07:42.639
eight hundred dollars. That's all we had eight hundred bucks,

101
00:07:43.199 --> 00:07:47.759
And Cosmo said this pissed him off. So somehow in

102
00:07:47.800 --> 00:07:51.040
this conversation, he says well, I'll sell you a gun

103
00:07:51.079 --> 00:07:53.800
for that eight hundred bucks. He pulls the gun out,

104
00:07:53.839 --> 00:07:57.079
and really the whole reason for having that shotgun was

105
00:07:57.120 --> 00:07:59.680
he wanted to shoot him with it, and he does,

106
00:08:00.360 --> 00:08:03.480
and he kills him right there on the spot with

107
00:08:03.560 --> 00:08:07.839
a shotgun. He said. After a shot Jimmy, he gets

108
00:08:08.120 --> 00:08:12.959
the backo from his property. He baries Jimmy and he

109
00:08:13.040 --> 00:08:16.879
walks away like it was nothing. Then he goes on

110
00:08:17.160 --> 00:08:20.000
to the other three boys and he talks about them,

111
00:08:20.399 --> 00:08:24.160
but this time another character is added into that mix.

112
00:08:24.639 --> 00:08:28.800
He said. Two days after he killed Jimmy, his cousin,

113
00:08:29.279 --> 00:08:33.279
Sean Krantz in him. They were on the property. Now, Sean,

114
00:08:33.759 --> 00:08:36.960
he is a kid from Philadelphia. He had a few

115
00:08:37.039 --> 00:08:40.039
scrapes with the law in his younger years. He's only

116
00:08:40.120 --> 00:08:45.639
twenty at this point, but nothing serious, no major arrest

117
00:08:45.799 --> 00:08:49.279
anything like that. He's a cousin of Cosmo's. And Cosmo

118
00:08:49.399 --> 00:08:52.720
said that that Friday, he and Shaan Krantz they come

119
00:08:52.799 --> 00:08:55.440
up with a plan. They needed some money and they

120
00:08:55.519 --> 00:08:59.919
wanted to rob Dean Finacaro. So Cosmo said he went

121
00:09:00.080 --> 00:09:03.919
to meet Dean under the pretense of a drug deal.

122
00:09:04.440 --> 00:09:07.679
He said it was just a small deal involving like

123
00:09:07.720 --> 00:09:11.360
a quarter pound of weed. So as cousin's with him

124
00:09:11.720 --> 00:09:14.919
and they pick up Dean Finekaro and then they go

125
00:09:15.039 --> 00:09:18.720
to the woods on his property. Now, according to Cosmo,

126
00:09:19.000 --> 00:09:22.639
the plan was Krantz was gonna wait in the woods

127
00:09:22.799 --> 00:09:26.759
with Dean Finacaro. Cosmo was gonna go act like he's

128
00:09:26.799 --> 00:09:29.679
going to get the weed to make this drug deal.

129
00:09:29.799 --> 00:09:32.840
And when that occurred, his cousin was supposed to shoot

130
00:09:33.000 --> 00:09:37.120
Dean Finacaro, but Krantz kind of chickened out. By the

131
00:09:37.159 --> 00:09:41.720
time Cosmo gets back, Krantz and Dean Finacaro still just

132
00:09:41.840 --> 00:09:47.120
standing there, and Cosmo's like WTF, And he says, oh, well,

133
00:09:47.200 --> 00:09:49.519
y'all come with me. We'll just we'll get it out

134
00:09:49.600 --> 00:09:52.879
of the barn. So they go to the barn, and

135
00:09:53.000 --> 00:09:56.399
according to Cosmo, he said, while they're in the barn,

136
00:09:56.480 --> 00:09:59.519
he turned his back for a second and his cousin

137
00:10:00.080 --> 00:10:05.799
aren't shooting inside that barn, and kills Dean Finacaro. He

138
00:10:05.799 --> 00:10:09.720
said he then took the gun from Shaan Krantz's cousin,

139
00:10:09.840 --> 00:10:12.360
and he shoots Dean a few more times, and he

140
00:10:12.399 --> 00:10:14.519
said the reason he did that was just to make

141
00:10:14.559 --> 00:10:17.519
sure he was dead. He went on to say, after

142
00:10:17.600 --> 00:10:22.080
Dean's murder, he left Sean in that barn, and he said,

143
00:10:22.159 --> 00:10:25.519
I'm going to meet Tom Mayo and Mark Sturgis at

144
00:10:25.559 --> 00:10:30.159
a shopping center to conduct yet another drug deal. He said,

145
00:10:30.279 --> 00:10:34.200
once he got to that shopping center, they followed him

146
00:10:34.600 --> 00:10:37.840
back to his property. Now, he said, once they got there,

147
00:10:38.399 --> 00:10:41.080
they get out of the vehicle, and these two guys,

148
00:10:41.120 --> 00:10:45.720
he said, they must have sensed something wrong because as

149
00:10:45.759 --> 00:10:47.799
soon as they get out of the car, one of

150
00:10:47.840 --> 00:10:50.480
them says to the other man, something ain't right here.

151
00:10:50.639 --> 00:10:52.559
We need to get out of here. So they turned

152
00:10:52.600 --> 00:10:56.399
their backs to leave, and Cosmo says, at that point,

153
00:10:56.399 --> 00:11:00.840
when they turned their backs on him, he shoots Thomas

154
00:11:00.879 --> 00:11:03.440
Mayo and he shoots him in the back, and then

155
00:11:03.720 --> 00:11:07.000
Thomas drops to the ground. And he said, at that point,

156
00:11:07.440 --> 00:11:10.159
Mark is like, what the hell is going on? So

157
00:11:10.399 --> 00:11:17.519
Cosmo just unloads the entire rest of this gun into Mark.

158
00:11:17.600 --> 00:11:19.399
He went on to say that Mark was such a

159
00:11:19.440 --> 00:11:22.919
big guy that even after that, even after he unloaded

160
00:11:23.000 --> 00:11:25.399
all the rest of the bullets from this gun, he

161
00:11:25.559 --> 00:11:28.399
was not dead. But he said he was paralyzed and

162
00:11:28.440 --> 00:11:31.840
he knew that because Mark starts screaming that he could

163
00:11:31.919 --> 00:11:35.799
not fill his legs. Cosmo said, at that point he

164
00:11:35.919 --> 00:11:39.639
starts screaming so loud that his cousin comes out of

165
00:11:39.639 --> 00:11:41.440
the barn and is like freaking out. We need to

166
00:11:41.480 --> 00:11:43.759
do something, We need to shut him up. And Cosmos

167
00:11:43.759 --> 00:11:46.320
said he was worried about some sort of neighbors. Even

168
00:11:46.360 --> 00:11:49.879
though neighbors on this property are far away, he was

169
00:11:49.919 --> 00:11:53.399
worried someone may hear these screams, so he said, and

170
00:11:53.559 --> 00:11:55.039
let me tell you, this is going to give you

171
00:11:55.360 --> 00:11:57.879
an idea of how sick this guy is, he said,

172
00:11:57.919 --> 00:12:01.320
in order to shut Mark up, and he gets the

173
00:12:01.440 --> 00:12:05.399
baco out of the barn, and he gets this idea

174
00:12:05.600 --> 00:12:10.600
to just flat out run Mark over with the bacco,

175
00:12:10.840 --> 00:12:14.360
which he does and he kills him. He said, he

176
00:12:14.399 --> 00:12:17.840
would have just continued to shoot him rather than run

177
00:12:17.919 --> 00:12:21.480
him over with thebacco, but he was completely out of bullets,

178
00:12:21.720 --> 00:12:24.879
he said. Sean then helped him bury the bodies of

179
00:12:24.960 --> 00:12:27.159
all of these three boys. And what they did was

180
00:12:27.200 --> 00:12:30.080
they put them in that metal pig roaster, and then

181
00:12:30.120 --> 00:12:33.519
they covered that metal pig roaster with a blue tarp

182
00:12:34.039 --> 00:12:36.519
and then they bury it with the They took the

183
00:12:36.600 --> 00:12:39.159
bacco and dug a hole seven feet in the ground

184
00:12:39.559 --> 00:12:43.200
and they buried them in that spot. So the last

185
00:12:43.240 --> 00:12:45.919
part of this deal, after he tells him how all

186
00:12:46.000 --> 00:12:50.000
these guys died, was to lead police to the bodies

187
00:12:50.000 --> 00:12:53.519
of Jimmy. So they print out, basically like a Google map,

188
00:12:53.559 --> 00:12:56.519
an area map of this entire property, and they had

189
00:12:56.559 --> 00:12:59.519
an X where the three bodies they had already found were,

190
00:13:00.039 --> 00:13:03.039
and they said, in relation to these bodies, where's the

191
00:13:03.080 --> 00:13:05.240
body of Jimmy, Which he was able to point that

192
00:13:05.320 --> 00:13:09.200
out almost pinpointed to the exact spot. It was about

193
00:13:09.200 --> 00:13:11.679
a mile and a half from where the other three

194
00:13:12.559 --> 00:13:16.360
bodies were located. But he was honest on that. Police

195
00:13:16.399 --> 00:13:20.080
went checked it out, and sure enough, they found Jimmy

196
00:13:20.240 --> 00:13:23.559
buried in the spot where he said that Jimmy was

197
00:13:23.879 --> 00:13:28.000
for boys. Y'all murdered in just a three day time period.

198
00:13:28.159 --> 00:13:31.559
So police, of course at this point they have another name, right,

199
00:13:32.039 --> 00:13:34.399
and they need to find Sean Krantz, who was not

200
00:13:34.559 --> 00:13:37.200
in town at this time. They were able to locate him.

201
00:13:37.279 --> 00:13:39.759
They were able to make it a rest. Now, his

202
00:13:39.919 --> 00:13:45.279
story was different than Cosmo's story was. Initially, he claimed

203
00:13:45.320 --> 00:13:47.919
that he did not kill anyone, that he was a

204
00:13:48.159 --> 00:13:51.440
witness to everything, he knew everything went down, but he

205
00:13:51.480 --> 00:13:54.080
did not take part in any of the killings. And

206
00:13:54.120 --> 00:13:57.360
he sticks to that story for quite a while. As

207
00:13:57.399 --> 00:14:01.639
a matter of fact, about nine months. After nine months,

208
00:14:01.720 --> 00:14:05.720
he eventually cracks and he decides, look, the best plan

209
00:14:05.840 --> 00:14:08.320
for me is to just come clean, which he does,

210
00:14:08.840 --> 00:14:11.919
and he said that he did shoot and kill Dean

211
00:14:12.039 --> 00:14:15.480
in that barn, which is exactly what Cosmo said happened.

212
00:14:15.799 --> 00:14:19.120
He claimed he did it out of fear that Cosmo

213
00:14:19.240 --> 00:14:22.720
would kill him if he did not do it. So

214
00:14:22.799 --> 00:14:25.000
there's not going to be a trial in this case,

215
00:14:25.159 --> 00:14:29.519
right because Cosmo had cut a deal. And on May

216
00:14:29.559 --> 00:14:35.000
sixteenth of twenty eighteen, he pleads guilty to four counts

217
00:14:35.120 --> 00:14:39.519
of first grew murder. Now, at the sentencing hearing, twelve

218
00:14:40.039 --> 00:14:45.240
people give victim impact statements, and I'm talking emotional ones.

219
00:14:45.679 --> 00:14:48.679
It was over nearly two hours as far as a

220
00:14:48.759 --> 00:14:53.159
time period that these people spoke, and DiNardo he even

221
00:14:53.279 --> 00:14:57.159
briefly addressed the court saying, quote, your honor, I want

222
00:14:57.159 --> 00:15:00.360
the four families to know I am sorry. If there

223
00:15:00.440 --> 00:15:03.840
was anything I could take back, I would yeah, right,

224
00:15:03.960 --> 00:15:08.720
screw him. Cosmo is then sentenced to four consecutive life

225
00:15:08.759 --> 00:15:13.440
sentences in order to pay forty two thousand dollars in restitution.

226
00:15:13.600 --> 00:15:16.039
Don't ask me how the hell he would ever be

227
00:15:16.120 --> 00:15:18.759
able to afford that. I guess they'll go after his family.

228
00:15:18.919 --> 00:15:21.759
And you may wonder about Seawan Krantz, Well, he was

229
00:15:21.960 --> 00:15:25.559
charged in all of the murders as well, with the

230
00:15:25.639 --> 00:15:29.240
exception of Jimmy's murder, and he was sentenced to life

231
00:15:29.240 --> 00:15:33.519
in prison for the murder of Dean Finacaro and eighteen

232
00:15:33.639 --> 00:15:37.279
to thirty six years each for the other murders his

233
00:15:37.399 --> 00:15:42.440
involvement in those. And as I was researching Cosmo's life

234
00:15:42.639 --> 00:15:46.320
inside of prison, I came across what I would consider

235
00:15:46.440 --> 00:15:52.240
a pretty shocking article and that was published January seventeenth

236
00:15:52.279 --> 00:15:55.159
of twenty twenty, and it was in regards to how

237
00:15:55.279 --> 00:16:01.039
Cosmo was classified inside of prison, and it's pretty outrageous.

238
00:16:01.440 --> 00:16:06.120
It was put out by Phillyburbs dot com and this

239
00:16:06.200 --> 00:16:10.399
is how it reads. Quadruple murderer Cosmo Donardo has been

240
00:16:10.480 --> 00:16:14.480
moved into one of Pennsylvania's highest security prisons, but state

241
00:16:14.519 --> 00:16:18.679
correction officials aren't giving a reason for the transfer. Donardo,

242
00:16:18.919 --> 00:16:22.720
now twenty two, has been serving his four life sentences

243
00:16:22.759 --> 00:16:26.360
at a retreat since twenty eighteen, when he pleaded guilty

244
00:16:26.440 --> 00:16:30.279
to the twenty seventeen murders of Mark Sturgis twenty two,

245
00:16:30.440 --> 00:16:35.679
Dean Finnicaro nineteen, Thomas Mayo twenty one, in Jimmy Patrick nineteen.

246
00:16:36.360 --> 00:16:40.559
This deal spared him the death penalty. Donardo was transferred

247
00:16:40.639 --> 00:16:46.159
out of the medium security retreat to sci huntingdon I

248
00:16:46.200 --> 00:16:50.919
believe it's some of it's pronounced in the Aligaheny Mountains,

249
00:16:50.960 --> 00:16:53.000
and I'm sure I'm jacking that one up. It was

250
00:16:53.120 --> 00:16:56.919
described as one of the state's highest security facilities that

251
00:16:57.039 --> 00:17:02.000
according to Pennsylvania Department of Corrections spokesman Susan McNaughton, the

252
00:17:02.080 --> 00:17:05.960
doc cannot divulge the reasons for moving an inmate, she said,

253
00:17:06.039 --> 00:17:08.519
but it was not related to Tom Wolfe, who is

254
00:17:08.599 --> 00:17:12.160
the Governor's Friday announcement that the retreat is closing later

255
00:17:12.240 --> 00:17:15.119
in May, a decision that could save the state forty

256
00:17:15.160 --> 00:17:19.359
million annually. Retreat inmate transfers will be done in the

257
00:17:19.400 --> 00:17:23.839
coming months, she said. Victim's families and the public expressed

258
00:17:23.880 --> 00:17:27.680
outrage last year after learning Denarta was serving his sentence

259
00:17:27.960 --> 00:17:32.200
in a medium security prison despite murdering four people in

260
00:17:32.279 --> 00:17:36.759
a crime that captured international attention for its gruesomeness and

261
00:17:36.960 --> 00:17:40.559
unexplained motive, which, incidentally, they never did find a motive

262
00:17:40.680 --> 00:17:46.400
for this. Sturgis's father, Mark Potish, express relief Friday that

263
00:17:46.440 --> 00:17:49.920
Donardo is now in maximum security. He learned about the

264
00:17:49.920 --> 00:17:53.359
transfer last week in a text message from the Department

265
00:17:53.440 --> 00:17:57.200
of Corrections quote, I'm definitely glad that he has been transferred.

266
00:17:57.240 --> 00:18:00.279
I can only hope it's permanent. Denardo's cousins and in

267
00:18:00.359 --> 00:18:04.359
codefendant Shawn Krantz twenty two, of Philadelphia, is an inmate

268
00:18:04.400 --> 00:18:09.359
at sci Forest in West Pennsylvania, another maximum security prison.

269
00:18:09.720 --> 00:18:12.720
Krantz is serving a life sentence plus thirty years in

270
00:18:12.759 --> 00:18:17.160
the death of Benicaru, Sturgis, and Mayo. The Bucks County

271
00:18:17.200 --> 00:18:20.839
District Attorney's office draw plans to seek the death penalty

272
00:18:20.960 --> 00:18:24.319
last November after Kranz was convicted of first and second

273
00:18:24.359 --> 00:18:29.000
degree murder, manslaughter, robbery, and abuse of corpses. The Department

274
00:18:29.000 --> 00:18:32.759
of Corrections emphasizes that virtually all prisons have a mix

275
00:18:32.799 --> 00:18:36.559
of inmates. Those serving life sentences are housed in twenty

276
00:18:36.559 --> 00:18:39.359
four of the state's twenty five state prisons, where they

277
00:18:39.400 --> 00:18:41.839
account for as few as one percent to as much

278
00:18:41.880 --> 00:18:45.839
as twenty one percent of the overall population. According to data,

279
00:18:46.279 --> 00:18:49.960
SCI Retreat has one hundred and three lifers roughly ten

280
00:18:50.000 --> 00:18:53.839
percent of its population as of October thirty, first of

281
00:18:53.880 --> 00:18:57.880
twenty twenty, compared with SCI Huntington, which had three hundred

282
00:18:57.880 --> 00:19:01.640
and seventy nine lifers and sco Forrest three hundred and

283
00:19:01.640 --> 00:19:05.440
five lifers. The type of crime, no matter how violent,

284
00:19:05.759 --> 00:19:09.440
has little bearing on whether an inmate is assigned to minimum, medium,

285
00:19:09.519 --> 00:19:13.160
or maximum security prison. That is freaking nuts, y'all. I

286
00:19:13.160 --> 00:19:15.920
couldn't believe that when I read it. Let me read

287
00:19:15.920 --> 00:19:19.799
that again. The type of crime, no matter how violent,

288
00:19:20.200 --> 00:19:25.720
has little bearing on whether an inmate is assigned to minimum, medium,

289
00:19:26.119 --> 00:19:30.519
or maximum security prison. Are you freaking kid? Meet Pennsylvania?

290
00:19:31.000 --> 00:19:34.640
That is crazy. Since nineteen ninety one, Pennsylvania has used

291
00:19:34.640 --> 00:19:38.839
an evaluation system that measures an inmate's risk level during

292
00:19:38.880 --> 00:19:43.319
incarceration and establishes the degree of staff supervision and control

293
00:19:43.519 --> 00:19:47.200
necessary to manage the inmate. The system is designed to

294
00:19:47.240 --> 00:19:50.880
place inmates in the least restrictive security level based on

295
00:19:50.960 --> 00:19:54.559
an objective assessment of their custody needs. Are y'all hearing this?

296
00:19:55.200 --> 00:19:58.519
Can you believe this? And this is in twenty twenty

297
00:19:58.960 --> 00:20:02.279
didn't matter what you did. You killed four people, but

298
00:20:02.400 --> 00:20:05.720
you seem like you're educated, so you don't need maximum security.

299
00:20:06.000 --> 00:20:09.799
That's nuts. Among the factors that determine custody levels or

300
00:20:09.960 --> 00:20:14.000
inmate criminal history, mental health, signs of sexual predatory and

301
00:20:14.079 --> 00:20:17.799
assault of behavior, history of escape, work history, and length

302
00:20:17.839 --> 00:20:21.839
of sentence. According to the agency policy, DC staff also

303
00:20:21.960 --> 00:20:25.880
takes into consideration if an inmate has known enemies inside

304
00:20:25.880 --> 00:20:29.759
of a prison. Inmates who maintain proper behavior, work, and

305
00:20:30.000 --> 00:20:35.799
actively participate in recommended programs generally are assigned less restrictive housing.

306
00:20:36.200 --> 00:20:41.079
The DC holds annual reavowal reviews for inmates to determine

307
00:20:41.119 --> 00:20:46.359
if their custody level has changed. Among the factors are misconduct, programming, behavior,

308
00:20:46.440 --> 00:20:49.799
and escape attempts. Pennsylvania State inmates are assigned to a

309
00:20:49.880 --> 00:20:53.319
custody level rated from one to five, which refers to

310
00:20:53.519 --> 00:20:57.359
the degree of staff supervision and control necessary to monitor

311
00:20:57.720 --> 00:21:01.680
an inmates behavior. Custody level one is the least restrictive,

312
00:21:01.839 --> 00:21:06.559
assigned only the inmates in community corrections transition housing. Custody

313
00:21:06.680 --> 00:21:10.200
level two minimum restrictions assign the inmates who show a

314
00:21:10.240 --> 00:21:15.039
pattern of non aggressive behavior. Custody level three medium restrictions.

315
00:21:15.480 --> 00:21:20.039
Custody Level four close custody, a level between medium and maximum,

316
00:21:20.200 --> 00:21:23.640
inmates receive the high degree of supervision. This level is

317
00:21:23.680 --> 00:21:27.079
assigned to newly received inmates who are not yet classified

318
00:21:27.640 --> 00:21:32.000
in custody Level five, most restrictive. Inmate requires continuous direct

319
00:21:32.039 --> 00:21:36.839
and indirect staff supervision, assigned to restrictive housing units, special

320
00:21:36.960 --> 00:21:42.759
management unit, or long term segregation. Can you believe what

321
00:21:42.920 --> 00:21:46.960
I just Regie? Absolutely mind blowing to me. I mean,

322
00:21:48.000 --> 00:21:50.839
I can honestly tell you I have never and will

323
00:21:50.920 --> 00:21:56.359
probably never again come across a convicted quadruple killer who

324
00:21:56.519 --> 00:22:00.359
is housed in a medium security prison. That is simply

325
00:22:01.920 --> 00:22:05.759
unbelievable to me. But there you have it. That is

326
00:22:06.200 --> 00:22:10.920
the story of Cosmo DeNardo. He is now obviously back

327
00:22:11.079 --> 00:22:14.799
in maximum security. The fact that he spent a year

328
00:22:14.799 --> 00:22:18.480
and a half two years inside medium security, as I say, crazy,

329
00:22:18.920 --> 00:22:21.440
but he's back in max security and he's going to

330
00:22:21.480 --> 00:22:23.599
stay there for the rest of his life, and good

331
00:22:23.680 --> 00:22:28.680
for him. What a sick individual he is and definitely

332
00:22:28.839 --> 00:22:33.200
fits fifty shades of evil in this case. Pennsylvania, thank

333
00:22:33.279 --> 00:22:35.359
you so much for listening. I know this one was

334
00:22:35.440 --> 00:22:37.759
a little bit shorter than I normally give you.

335
00:22:37.880 --> 00:22:39.119
But it is what it is.

336
00:22:39.400 --> 00:22:42.319
I had this one split up into two episodes, and

337
00:22:43.000 --> 00:22:46.440
I don't just feel time to feel time on this podcast.

338
00:22:46.599 --> 00:22:47.400
It is what it is.

339
00:22:47.519 --> 00:22:50.119
About a half hour episode or so today. I'll be

340
00:22:50.200 --> 00:22:54.279
back next week with another edition of fifty Shades of

341
00:22:54.319 --> 00:22:57.319
Evil and look quickly if you like the content, if

342
00:22:57.359 --> 00:22:59.680

00:23:05.799 --> 00:23:08.519
in Expose Jim Chapman and it'll pull up. Thank you

346
00:23:08.680 --> 00:23:11.960
