1:40 So if you haven't heard part one, I released that last week, go check that out, so you'll be all caught up for right now. And the last time that I left you, police were searching that ninety acre property owned by Cosmo Denorder his family, and they had just found Dean finn Caro's missing phone. So we're gonna pick up there. And as that search continues, Jimmy's parents arrived at that property. Now remember Jimmy's phone last pinned fifty miles from this massive property, so his grandparents were told and they were not even sure he was involved with any of these other missing boys. But it was about that time that police got an updated report from the cell company and they were saying there was actually another ping that was much closer to that property. If not on that property. So a big disappointment and shock there for that family as they realized he likely is tied in with these other missing boys. Now another shock when Cosmo actually bails out of jail. Now remember he was being held on over a million dollar bond, but it's Pennsylvania, and in Pennsylvania only ten percent of that bond do you have to make in cash. So he was able to bail out on one hundred thousand dollars bond courtesy

3:10 of his father. So the search continues. In a couple of days into that search, still nothing as far as any sign of bodies of these boys, etc. Then on the third day of that search, a major breakthrough. Searchers come across a large pile of rocks in what looked like disturb ground on that property. So they start digging that area. Now, this is going to take a little while because they don't just go in there with bulldozers and backos and things like that and start digging into the ground. They actually use shovels, and they have to be very careful because if they come across anything and they damage it while digging, you could be damaging a major piece of evidence. So they start digging, and what they're noticing as they're digging this hole is they'll go like say, three feet down and they'll have grass that was still alive three feet down, And that tells you that that dirt has been piled on top of each other pretty recently, because the grass wouldn't exist, it would be dead if it was underground and not getting sunlight.

4:20 They continue digging further after they noticed that. In about six feet down, they start noticing a smell, the unmistakable smell of decaying flesh. Now they know at this point they're getting close to probably uncovering something, but they didn't want to take any chances of Cosmo hearing this and skipping town, knowing they were digging in that spot where he likely hid the bodies of these young men. But they had a problem. He was out of jail on bond, so they had to come up with a reason to arrest him again, and they did. They actually charged him because they had enough evidence at this point in time for attempting to sell Thomas Mayo's car. So at this point Cosmo he gets a second arrest and he goes to jail, and this time they learned from his bail from last time, and they upped it to five million dollars, which, even when you got Cosmo Donardo's family money, that's a lot of bail to have to come up with. Now, detectives kept digging and as they're digging down they come across a boot. Now just below that, they start hitting metal and they're like, man, what the hell is this? Well, it ended up being a tank that had been repurposed, if you will, into a pig roaster and it was covered by a blue tarp. So they dig this tank

5:53 slash pig roaster out of the ground and shockingly, three bodies were discovered, partially burned, and those bodies were confirmed to be the remains of Thomas Mayo, Dean Finnicaro, and Mark Sturgis. However, there was no sign of Jimmy, so they continued searching no luck, and with nowhere else to look, they get a Cosmo who was in jail, remember on that five million dollar bail this time, and they tell him, look, we're gonna make you a deal. We already know, we already found the three bodies of these other young men, but we never found Jimmy's body. And if you'll tell us where you buried him. We will pull the death penalty off the table. And he agrees to that, and he also agrees to cooperate as part of this deal, and Cosmo tells them the entire story, y'all. So with a deal in place, he starts talking and he recounts an unbelievable story. He said, he is killing spree if you will. Started with Jimmy Patrick. He told police he was serving as a middleman and a drug deal and in this particular deal, he was not gonna make any money.

7:12 He said, look, I was just a middle man. I was trying to help two people out and I was getting Jimmy a good price on a large quantity of weed. He said. Jimmy picked him up. And according to Cosmo, when they arrived at the meeting spot to make that drug deal, he turns to Jimmy and he asked for, according to him, eight thousand dollars to make this drug deal. And Jimmy says, eight thousand dollars. I thought you said eight hundred dollars. That's all we had eight hundred bucks, And Cosmo said this pissed him off. So somehow in this conversation, he says well, I'll sell you a gun for that eight hundred bucks. He pulls the gun out, and really the whole reason for having that shotgun was he wanted to shoot him with it, and he does, and he kills him right there on the spot with a shotgun. He said. After a shot Jimmy, he gets the backo from his property. He baries Jimmy and he walks away like it was nothing. Then he goes on to the other three boys and he talks about them, but this time another character is added into that mix.

8:24 He said. Two days after he killed Jimmy, his cousin, Sean Krantz in him. They were on the property. Now, Sean, he is a kid from Philadelphia. He had a few scrapes with the law in his younger years. He's only twenty at this point, but nothing serious, no major arrest anything like that. He's a cousin of Cosmo's. And Cosmo said that that Friday, he and Shaan Krantz they come up with a plan. They needed some money and they wanted to rob Dean Finacaro. So Cosmo said he went to meet Dean under the pretense of a drug deal. He said it was just a small deal involving like a quarter pound of weed. So as cousin's with him and they pick up Dean Finekaro and then they go to the woods on his property. Now, according to Cosmo, the plan was Krantz was gonna wait in the woods with Dean Finacaro. Cosmo was gonna go act like he's going to get the weed to make this drug deal.

9:29 And when that occurred, his cousin was supposed to shoot Dean Finacaro, but Krantz kind of chickened out. By the time Cosmo gets back, Krantz and Dean Finacaro still just standing there, and Cosmo's like WTF, And he says, oh, well, y'all come with me. We'll just we'll get it out of the barn. So they go to the barn, and according to Cosmo, he said, while they're in the barn, he turned his back for a second and his cousin aren't shooting inside that barn, and kills Dean Finacaro. He said he then took the gun from Shaan Krantz's cousin, and he shoots Dean a few more times, and he said the reason he did that was just to make sure he was dead. He went on to say, after Dean's murder, he left Sean in that barn, and he said, I'm going to meet Tom Mayo and Mark Sturgis at a shopping center to conduct yet another drug deal. He said, once he got to that shopping center, they followed him back to his property. Now, he said, once they got there, they get out of the vehicle, and these two guys, he said, they must have sensed something wrong because as soon as they get out of the car, one of them says to the other man, something ain't right here.

10:50 We need to get out of here. So they turned their backs to leave, and Cosmo says, at that point, when they turned their backs on him, he shoots Thomas Mayo and he shoots him in the back, and then Thomas drops to the ground. And he said, at that point, Mark is like, what the hell is going on? So Cosmo just unloads the entire rest of this gun into Mark. He went on to say that Mark was such a big guy that even after that, even after he unloaded all the rest of the bullets from this gun, he was not dead. But he said he was paralyzed and he knew that because Mark starts screaming that he could not fill his legs. Cosmo said, at that point he starts screaming so loud that his cousin comes out of the barn and is like freaking out. We need to do something, We need to shut him up. And Cosmos said he was worried about some sort of neighbors. Even though neighbors on this property are far away, he was worried someone may hear these screams, so he said, and let me tell you, this is going to give you an idea of how sick this guy is, he said, in order to shut Mark up, and he gets the baco out of the barn, and he gets this idea to just flat out run Mark over with the bacco, which he does and he kills him. He said, he would have just continued to shoot him rather than run him over with thebacco, but he was completely out of bullets,

12:21 he said. Sean then helped him bury the bodies of all of these three boys. And what they did was they put them in that metal pig roaster, and then they covered that metal pig roaster with a blue tarp and then they bury it with the They took the bacco and dug a hole seven feet in the ground and they buried them in that spot. So the last part of this deal, after he tells him how all these guys died, was to lead police to the bodies of Jimmy. So they print out, basically like a Google map, an area map of this entire property, and they had an X where the three bodies they had already found were, and they said, in relation to these bodies, where's the body of Jimmy, Which he was able to point that out almost pinpointed to the exact spot. It was about a mile and a half from where the other three bodies were located. But he was honest on that. Police went checked it out, and sure enough, they found Jimmy buried in the spot where he said that Jimmy was for boys. Y'all murdered in just a three day time period.

13:28 So police, of course at this point they have another name, right, and they need to find Sean Krantz, who was not in town at this time. They were able to locate him. They were able to make it a rest. Now, his story was different than Cosmo's story was. Initially, he claimed that he did not kill anyone, that he was a witness to everything, he knew everything went down, but he did not take part in any of the killings. And he sticks to that story for quite a while. As a matter of fact, about nine months. After nine months, he eventually cracks and he decides, look, the best plan for me is to just come clean, which he does, and he said that he did shoot and kill Dean in that barn, which is exactly what Cosmo said happened.

14:15 He claimed he did it out of fear that Cosmo would kill him if he did not do it. So there's not going to be a trial in this case, right because Cosmo had cut a deal. And on May sixteenth of twenty eighteen, he pleads guilty to four counts of first grew murder. Now, at the sentencing hearing, twelve people give victim impact statements, and I'm talking emotional ones. It was over nearly two hours as far as a time period that these people spoke, and DiNardo he even briefly addressed the court saying, quote, your honor, I want the four families to know I am sorry. If there was anything I could take back, I would yeah, right, screw him. Cosmo is then sentenced to four consecutive life sentences in order to pay forty two thousand dollars in restitution.

15:13 Don't ask me how the hell he would ever be able to afford that. I guess they'll go after his family. And you may wonder about Seawan Krantz, Well, he was charged in all of the murders as well, with the exception of Jimmy's murder, and he was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Dean Finacaro and eighteen to thirty six years each for the other murders his involvement in those. And as I was researching Cosmo's life inside of prison, I came across what I would consider a pretty shocking article and that was published January seventeenth of twenty twenty, and it was in regards to how Cosmo was classified inside of prison, and it's pretty outrageous.

16:01 It was put out by Phillyburbs dot com and this is how it reads. Quadruple murderer Cosmo Donardo has been moved into one of Pennsylvania's highest security prisons, but state correction officials aren't giving a reason for the transfer. Donardo, now twenty two, has been serving his four life sentences at a retreat since twenty eighteen, when he pleaded guilty to the twenty seventeen murders of Mark Sturgis twenty two, Dean Finnicaro nineteen, Thomas Mayo twenty one, in Jimmy Patrick nineteen. This deal spared him the death penalty. Donardo was transferred out of the medium security retreat to sci huntingdon I believe it's some of it's pronounced in the Aligaheny Mountains, and I'm sure I'm jacking that one up. It was described as one of the state's highest security facilities that according to Pennsylvania Department of Corrections spokesman Susan McNaughton, the doc cannot divulge the reasons for moving an inmate, she said, but it was not related to Tom Wolfe, who is the Governor's Friday announcement that the retreat is closing later in May, a decision that could save the state forty million annually. Retreat inmate transfers will be done in the coming months, she said. Victim's families and the public expressed outrage last year after learning Denarta was serving his sentence in a medium security prison despite murdering four people in

17:32 a crime that captured international attention for its gruesomeness and unexplained motive, which, incidentally, they never did find a motive for this. Sturgis's father, Mark Potish, express relief Friday that Donardo is now in maximum security. He learned about the transfer last week in a text message from the Department of Corrections quote, I'm definitely glad that he has been transferred. I can only hope it's permanent. Denardo's cousins and in codefendant Shawn Krantz twenty two, of Philadelphia, is an inmate at sci Forest in West Pennsylvania, another maximum security prison. Krantz is serving a life sentence plus thirty years in the death of Benicaru, Sturgis, and Mayo. The Bucks County District Attorney's office draw plans to seek the death penalty last November after Kranz was convicted of first and second degree murder, manslaughter, robbery, and abuse of corpses. The Department of Corrections emphasizes that virtually all prisons have a mix of inmates. Those serving life sentences are housed in twenty four of the state's twenty five state prisons, where they account for as few as one percent to as much as twenty one percent of the overall population. According to data, SCI Retreat has one hundred and three lifers roughly ten percent of its population as of October thirty, first of twenty twenty, compared with SCI Huntington, which had three hundred and seventy nine lifers and sco Forrest three hundred and five lifers. The type of crime, no matter how violent,

19:05 has little bearing on whether an inmate is assigned to minimum, medium, or maximum security prison. That is freaking nuts, y'all. I couldn't believe that when I read it. Let me read that again. The type of crime, no matter how violent, has little bearing on whether an inmate is assigned to minimum, medium, or maximum security prison. Are you freaking kid? Meet Pennsylvania? That is crazy. Since nineteen ninety one, Pennsylvania has used an evaluation system that measures an inmate's risk level during incarceration and establishes the degree of staff supervision and control necessary to manage the inmate. The system is designed to place inmates in the least restrictive security level based on an objective assessment of their custody needs. Are y'all hearing this?

19:55 Can you believe this? And this is in twenty twenty didn't matter what you did. You killed four people, but you seem like you're educated, so you don't need maximum security. That's nuts. Among the factors that determine custody levels or inmate criminal history, mental health, signs of sexual predatory and assault of behavior, history of escape, work history, and length of sentence. According to the agency policy, DC staff also takes into consideration if an inmate has known enemies inside of a prison. Inmates who maintain proper behavior, work, and actively participate in recommended programs generally are assigned less restrictive housing.

20:36 The DC holds annual reavowal reviews for inmates to determine if their custody level has changed. Among the factors are misconduct, programming, behavior, and escape attempts. Pennsylvania State inmates are assigned to a custody level rated from one to five, which refers to the degree of staff supervision and control necessary to monitor an inmates behavior. Custody level one is the least restrictive, assigned only the inmates in community corrections transition housing. Custody level two minimum restrictions assign the inmates who show a pattern of non aggressive behavior. Custody level three medium restrictions. Custody Level four close custody, a level between medium and maximum, inmates receive the high degree of supervision. This level is assigned to newly received inmates who are not yet classified in custody Level five, most restrictive. Inmate requires continuous direct and indirect staff supervision, assigned to restrictive housing units, special management unit, or long term segregation. Can you believe what I just Regie? Absolutely mind blowing to me. I mean, I can honestly tell you I have never and will probably never again come across a convicted quadruple killer who is housed in a medium security prison. That is simply unbelievable to me. But there you have it. That is

22:06 the story of Cosmo DeNardo. He is now obviously back in maximum security. The fact that he spent a year and a half two years inside medium security, as I say, crazy, but he's back in max security and he's going to stay there for the rest of his life, and good for him.
