On July 20, 2012, a packed midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises at the Century 16 theater in Aurora, Colorado, turned into one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history. Dressed in tactical gear and heavily armed, 24-year-old James Holmes known as the “Colorado Theatre Shooter” opened fire, killing 12 people and injuring 70 others in a matter of minutes.

Once a high-achieving neuroscience PhD student at the University of Colorado, Holmes had meticulously planned the attack for months—rigging his apartment with explosives, stockpiling weapons and ammunition, and even alerting authorities to his booby-trapped home before surrendering. What drove this brilliant but troubled young man to commit such unimaginable violence? In this episode, we examine Holmes’ background, his documented mental health struggles, the controversial insanity defense that played out in a high-profile trial, and the jury’s ultimate decision to reject it—convicting him on all 165 counts and sentencing him to 12 consecutive life sentences plus 3,318 years without parole.

Hey everyone, and welcome back to Bloody and Gola. I'm

9
00:01:33.280 --> 00:01:37.359
Jim Chapman and I am back with another Fifty Shades

10
00:01:37.400 --> 00:01:40.680
of Evil series episode, and this time we are going

11
00:01:40.760 --> 00:01:45.439
to go to Colorado when on June twelfth of twenty twelve,

12
00:01:45.599 --> 00:01:47.959
a twenty four year old mail by the name of

13
00:01:48.200 --> 00:01:53.480
James Holmes entered a midnight movie screening of Batman The

14
00:01:53.640 --> 00:01:56.920
Dark Night and he was armed with an AR fifteen,

15
00:01:57.159 --> 00:02:00.519
a one hundred round magazine, as well as a twelve

16
00:02:00.560 --> 00:02:05.239
gage shotgun and a Glock forty caliber pistol. He killed

17
00:02:05.359 --> 00:02:09.719
twelve people, injured seventy others. And when you talk about evil,

18
00:02:10.199 --> 00:02:13.759
this guy embodies it. So today we are going to

19
00:02:13.800 --> 00:02:16.840
talk about what led up to this shooting, what became

20
00:02:16.960 --> 00:02:19.080
of James Holmes, and we're going to go to the

21
00:02:19.159 --> 00:02:22.520
state of Colorado to do it and tell you the

22
00:02:22.560 --> 00:02:27.319
story of the Colorado Theater shooter and for James Holmes,

23
00:02:27.360 --> 00:02:30.400
it all started in nineteen eighty seven, but it was

24
00:02:30.479 --> 00:02:34.800
not in Colorado. It was in San Diego, California, where

25
00:02:34.840 --> 00:02:39.199
he was born to parents, Robert and Arlene Holmes. And look,

26
00:02:39.560 --> 00:02:44.280
his parents were very smart, educated professionals. His dad was

27
00:02:44.280 --> 00:02:48.800
a mathematician and his mom was a registered nurse, and

28
00:02:48.840 --> 00:02:52.840
they were super smart people, very affluent. And although he

29
00:02:53.039 --> 00:02:56.599
was born in San Diego, he was actually raised until

30
00:02:56.599 --> 00:03:00.680
the age of twelve about seven hours no of there,

31
00:03:00.879 --> 00:03:05.599
in what's known as Castorville, California. However, at the age

32
00:03:05.599 --> 00:03:09.240
of twelve, that family moves back to San Diego, and

33
00:03:09.280 --> 00:03:12.039
by this time James had a younger sister who was

34
00:03:12.120 --> 00:03:16.439
two years younger than himself. Now, up to this point,

35
00:03:16.479 --> 00:03:20.919
he appeared to have a pretty normal childhood. His family

36
00:03:20.960 --> 00:03:25.199
took vacations, they had fun together, but it was not

37
00:03:25.360 --> 00:03:30.800
completely without its challenges. When James was just eight years old,

38
00:03:30.879 --> 00:03:34.120
his parents sent him to a psychiatrist because he had

39
00:03:34.199 --> 00:03:37.159
hit his sister. Now it could have been one of

40
00:03:37.199 --> 00:03:42.759
those sibling rivalry things that maybe his parents overreacted, or

41
00:03:42.800 --> 00:03:47.360
maybe they knew something was a little bit off with James.

42
00:03:47.479 --> 00:03:52.599
But outside of that, everything up until this point appeared typical,

43
00:03:52.759 --> 00:03:56.039
though he was a very shy kid when he was

44
00:03:56.319 --> 00:03:59.639
very young. Now, one thing that was a parent was

45
00:03:59.680 --> 00:04:02.639
that he he was smart, gifted. Even so, James and

46
00:04:02.680 --> 00:04:06.120
his family they moved back to the San Diego area,

47
00:04:06.159 --> 00:04:09.400
and James took this pretty hard, felt like he was

48
00:04:09.479 --> 00:04:12.280
leaving his friends, and he was so upset about this,

49
00:04:12.439 --> 00:04:15.639
in fact, that on that seven hour drive back to

50
00:04:15.759 --> 00:04:19.000
San Diego, he attempts to cut his own rest with

51
00:04:19.079 --> 00:04:23.160
a piece of cardboard, which really it was no big deal,

52
00:04:23.399 --> 00:04:26.720
just barely broke the skin. And his parents kind of

53
00:04:26.759 --> 00:04:30.040
looked at this as possibly some sort of reaction to

54
00:04:30.120 --> 00:04:33.480
that move and something to seek a little bit of attention.

55
00:04:33.800 --> 00:04:38.079
But this is the timeframe where James would say later

56
00:04:38.439 --> 00:04:42.279
after his arrest to a psychiatrist that he felt he

57
00:04:42.439 --> 00:04:45.879
was starting to become mentally ill. Now by the time

58
00:04:45.920 --> 00:04:49.600
he was a teenager. His parents they tried to get

59
00:04:49.639 --> 00:04:53.360
him out. They were good people. They went to several

60
00:04:53.399 --> 00:04:57.879
different places to see psychiatrists. But the issue with James was,

61
00:04:58.040 --> 00:05:02.000
although it just appeared something wasn't right, it wasn't the

62
00:05:02.040 --> 00:05:04.879
warning signs that you would see where you would say,

63
00:05:05.079 --> 00:05:08.120
oh my gosh, this guy needs help right now. Just

64
00:05:08.279 --> 00:05:11.720
not huge things that would stand out. He just seemed

65
00:05:11.800 --> 00:05:14.879
kind of disconnected, if you will, from the rest of

66
00:05:14.920 --> 00:05:18.399
his family. Now, despite all this, he had a pretty

67
00:05:18.680 --> 00:05:23.120
typical social life. He had a few friends, He played soccer,

68
00:05:23.160 --> 00:05:27.040
he ran cross country, and in two thousand and six

69
00:05:27.160 --> 00:05:31.560
he would graduate from high school with honors. Now, although

70
00:05:31.600 --> 00:05:35.000
he would say he was never bullied during his high

71
00:05:35.040 --> 00:05:38.800
school years, he would say later that he would overhear

72
00:05:38.879 --> 00:05:42.680
people talking about him from time to time and that

73
00:05:43.319 --> 00:05:47.240
they would say he was strange and just different. He said,

74
00:05:47.319 --> 00:05:51.279
when this would happen, he would picture violent images in

75
00:05:51.319 --> 00:05:54.040
his head. When he was asked about this, he said,

76
00:05:54.120 --> 00:05:58.160
images like a saw going through whoever happened to be

77
00:05:58.319 --> 00:06:02.040
saying these things about him. Now, that I would say

78
00:06:02.199 --> 00:06:05.560
is quite the warning sign, right, but he would keep

79
00:06:05.600 --> 00:06:08.879
that to himself. So, as I said, he graduates from

80
00:06:08.959 --> 00:06:13.839
high school with honors. He attends the University of California

81
00:06:14.000 --> 00:06:18.639
at Riverside, and he graduates from the University of California

82
00:06:18.639 --> 00:06:23.079
at Riverside in twenty ten with a three point nine

83
00:06:23.120 --> 00:06:28.360
to six GPA in neuroscience. Now, he would say later

84
00:06:28.519 --> 00:06:32.399
that he chose neuroscience because he knew that he had

85
00:06:32.480 --> 00:06:36.519
something wrong mentally and that he wanted to learn how

86
00:06:36.560 --> 00:06:41.279
to fix his brain. Now, after college, he toiled around

87
00:06:41.360 --> 00:06:45.519
with a few jobs and then decided he wanted to

88
00:06:45.560 --> 00:06:50.439
go back to college to pursue a PhD in neuroscience.

89
00:06:51.120 --> 00:06:54.040
And it was also at this point in time that

90
00:06:54.199 --> 00:06:57.360
people he would work with if these odd jobs he

91
00:06:57.399 --> 00:06:59.639
had worked at like a factory at one point in

92
00:06:59.680 --> 00:07:03.720
some other places, they said he was very antisocial. He

93
00:07:03.720 --> 00:07:06.839
would stay to himself a lot of the times, and

94
00:07:06.879 --> 00:07:11.000
this would gradually get worse and worse for James as

95
00:07:11.000 --> 00:07:14.519
we go along. So James applied to several schools to

96
00:07:14.600 --> 00:07:19.879
seek this PhD and he ends up picking Aurora, Colorado

97
00:07:20.199 --> 00:07:25.480
in the University of Colorado in which to get his PhD.

98
00:07:25.600 --> 00:07:29.600
And he would actually get a girlfriend during this time now,

99
00:07:29.680 --> 00:07:34.360
although they would eventually break up because she would say

100
00:07:34.519 --> 00:07:37.560
she didn't want to have a long term relationship. And

101
00:07:37.800 --> 00:07:41.800
although he didn't verbalize the fact that this crushed him

102
00:07:41.959 --> 00:07:45.160
at the time, it crushed him and his mental state

103
00:07:45.360 --> 00:07:48.600
was going down at this point, so it was a

104
00:07:48.600 --> 00:07:51.680
blow that he didn't know how to deal with or

105
00:07:51.800 --> 00:07:54.839
didn't have the tools to deal with at that time. Now,

106
00:07:54.879 --> 00:07:57.639
they did continue to see each other, and I guess

107
00:07:57.680 --> 00:07:59.959
you could describe it as maybe some kind of hook

108
00:08:00.160 --> 00:08:04.560
up relationship, but they were not boyfriend and girlfriend, and

109
00:08:04.639 --> 00:08:09.160
he had said later on in interviews that he was

110
00:08:09.199 --> 00:08:12.040
absolutely in love with this girl. Now, it was during

111
00:08:12.079 --> 00:08:16.600
this time that also his anxiety would get really bad

112
00:08:17.160 --> 00:08:21.480
around almost everyone, so bad in fact, that while he

113
00:08:21.600 --> 00:08:26.120
was in school he would go see a psychiatrist himself. Now,

114
00:08:26.600 --> 00:08:31.120
she takes this appointment with James, and they have a

115
00:08:31.279 --> 00:08:35.440
couple of sessions together, and she picks up that there

116
00:08:35.559 --> 00:08:39.879
was a lot messed up underneath the surface with this kid,

117
00:08:40.039 --> 00:08:44.159
so much so that she reaches out to a colleague

118
00:08:44.240 --> 00:08:48.840
because she started to think this is beyond how I

119
00:08:48.879 --> 00:08:52.120
can help him. So she emails this colleague and I'm

120
00:08:52.120 --> 00:08:55.200
going to read you that quick email. This is from

121
00:08:55.559 --> 00:09:01.000
psychiatrist Margaret Wroth to psychiatrist Lynn Fenton, and it was

122
00:09:01.080 --> 00:09:05.879
emailed March nineteenth of twenty twelve. She said, I saw

123
00:09:05.919 --> 00:09:09.120
a student late Friday who I would hope you would

124
00:09:09.120 --> 00:09:11.639
be able to see as soon as possible. He is

125
00:09:11.679 --> 00:09:15.159
the most anxious guy I have seen and has symptoms

126
00:09:15.200 --> 00:09:18.879
of OCD. But most concerning is that he has thoughts

127
00:09:18.960 --> 00:09:22.559
of killing people. Though I do not think he is dangerous.

128
00:09:22.840 --> 00:09:25.960
He said he did not want to tell me everything

129
00:09:26.039 --> 00:09:29.120
he was experiencing, as I might have to report him.

130
00:09:29.320 --> 00:09:31.759
The reason I think might be best for you to

131
00:09:31.840 --> 00:09:33.919
see him, as I think it might be best to

132
00:09:34.039 --> 00:09:36.480
keep him in our system, and she means in the

133
00:09:36.519 --> 00:09:39.399
school system. What do you think about that? I am

134
00:09:39.480 --> 00:09:41.679
leaving right now to go get some work done on

135
00:09:41.720 --> 00:09:45.679
my car. Should be back about noon or twelve thirty.

136
00:09:46.120 --> 00:09:51.080
Thanks Margaret. So that was the email. And obviously these

137
00:09:51.200 --> 00:09:55.919
issues are really surfacing to wear James, not that he

138
00:09:56.080 --> 00:09:59.360
was attempting to hide them from other people, but he

139
00:09:59.440 --> 00:10:02.440
was certainly attempting to hide them from the public. He

140
00:10:02.480 --> 00:10:06.279
didn't hide them from a psychiatrist, say Man, doctor Lynn Finton,

141
00:10:06.799 --> 00:10:10.080
she does agree to work with James, and this is

142
00:10:10.120 --> 00:10:14.000
in late March of twenty twelve. And throughout these sessions

143
00:10:14.240 --> 00:10:19.240
he would mention that he's having or was having homicidal thoughts,

144
00:10:19.360 --> 00:10:23.600
and he would say these homicidal thoughts increased to about

145
00:10:23.639 --> 00:10:27.720
three or four per day. He would start to express

146
00:10:28.000 --> 00:10:31.759
hatred for people, and the doctor would note that he

147
00:10:31.879 --> 00:10:38.000
was having increased psychotic thinking levels. She would prescribe zoloft

148
00:10:38.159 --> 00:10:42.159
in Clonzipam for him. And what the doctor did not

149
00:10:42.440 --> 00:10:45.840
know during these sessions is that toward the end of

150
00:10:45.879 --> 00:10:51.639
their sessions, James started purchasing firearms. On May twenty second

151
00:10:51.720 --> 00:10:55.519
of twenty twelve, he actually purchased his first weapon, a

152
00:10:55.600 --> 00:11:01.039
glock pistol a week later, on May twenty eighth, a shotgun.

153
00:11:01.399 --> 00:11:05.120
He was already planning something, but he wouldn't disclose that

154
00:11:05.399 --> 00:11:09.519
to his psychiatrist now. Just prior to his last session,

155
00:11:09.759 --> 00:11:14.200
on June seventh of twenty twelve, he purchases an AR

156
00:11:14.320 --> 00:11:21.000
fifteen rifle, six thousand rounds of AMMO, a drum magazine,

157
00:11:21.080 --> 00:11:25.120
and this drum magazine would increase the round capacity of

158
00:11:25.159 --> 00:11:29.399
that rifle from thirty rounds in the regular magazine to

159
00:11:29.759 --> 00:11:34.159
one hundred rounds. So it was on June eleventh that

160
00:11:34.320 --> 00:11:37.840
Holmes goes in for a session and he tells doctor

161
00:11:37.919 --> 00:11:42.360
Fenton that he failed a major oral exam and he

162
00:11:42.559 --> 00:11:46.679
quit school on the spot. And not only that, he

163
00:11:46.879 --> 00:11:50.840
also said he was quitting his therapy and she was

164
00:11:50.960 --> 00:11:53.639
like why, and he said that he had lost his

165
00:11:53.720 --> 00:11:57.440
student status, which also means that he would lose his

166
00:11:57.679 --> 00:12:01.200
insurance due to not being a student anymore. So when

167
00:12:01.240 --> 00:12:04.320
you're on your parents' insurance. You have to be a

168
00:12:04.360 --> 00:12:07.919
student in college when you were the age of James Holmes. Well,

169
00:12:07.960 --> 00:12:10.440
if he drops out of school, then he's not going

170
00:12:10.480 --> 00:12:13.600
to be covered under that policy. And he said he

171
00:12:13.639 --> 00:12:17.879
could not afford the four hundred dollars monthly fee that

172
00:12:17.960 --> 00:12:20.960
she would be charging him. Now, doctor Fenton, she was

173
00:12:21.080 --> 00:12:25.159
very concerned about this. Obviously, she sensed a lot wrong

174
00:12:25.399 --> 00:12:29.000
with this kid, and she offered him free sessions. Hey,

175
00:12:29.039 --> 00:12:32.399
we're not going to charge you anything, but he declined

176
00:12:32.600 --> 00:12:35.879
those free sessions. And it's at this point you could

177
00:12:35.960 --> 00:12:38.919
kind of tell that he was not gihon if you

178
00:12:39.039 --> 00:12:43.039
will with doctor Finton. So on this day they did

179
00:12:43.200 --> 00:12:47.120
have one final session and James was described by the

180
00:12:47.200 --> 00:12:51.799
doctor as very belligerent during this session. The session was

181
00:12:51.919 --> 00:12:55.320
very short and it was very tense, and he walks

182
00:12:55.399 --> 00:13:00.320
out of doctor Finton's office that day and he never returned.

183
00:13:00.679 --> 00:13:05.600
Shortly after, she said that he sent her threatening messages

184
00:13:05.679 --> 00:13:09.159
and doctor Finton would be so concerned about this she

185
00:13:09.600 --> 00:13:14.360
would actually contact James's mother out of concern for him

186
00:13:14.519 --> 00:13:18.080
leaving therapy, as well as campus police. Now in his

187
00:13:18.159 --> 00:13:21.759
mother's case, his mother would testify at the trial and

188
00:13:21.879 --> 00:13:26.519
say the doctor never mentioned me, meaning doctor Finton, that

189
00:13:26.879 --> 00:13:31.080
James had threatened or had mentioned that he had these

190
00:13:31.240 --> 00:13:35.399
thoughts of killing other people. She said, had doctor Finton

191
00:13:35.480 --> 00:13:38.000
mention this, I would have done everything I could to

192
00:13:38.000 --> 00:13:41.679
pick him up that day. But the doctor never told

193
00:13:41.720 --> 00:13:45.000
her that. The only thing she mentioned that I was

194
00:13:45.039 --> 00:13:49.320
able to locate was that he was quitting his therapy

195
00:13:49.360 --> 00:13:52.559
and she was concerned about it. But she did contact

196
00:13:52.720 --> 00:13:56.559
campus police as well the doctor, doctor Finton, and they

197
00:13:56.720 --> 00:14:00.240
deactivated his student ID cards. So he had one of

198
00:14:00.279 --> 00:14:03.840
those student ID cards where he could swipe in and

199
00:14:03.919 --> 00:14:07.519
out of buildings, and doctor Fenton was concerned he was

200
00:14:07.559 --> 00:14:10.279
going to come do something to her, so they'd deactivated

201
00:14:10.320 --> 00:14:13.799
his ability to be able to get into buildings. They

202
00:14:13.840 --> 00:14:17.879
also ran his criminal record, but the issue was James

203
00:14:17.879 --> 00:14:21.679
Holmes didn't have any criminal record, So once they did that,

204
00:14:21.759 --> 00:14:24.080
they just kind of put the file to the side.

205
00:14:24.279 --> 00:14:26.960
They figured, Hey, this kid dropped out of school. It's

206
00:14:27.000 --> 00:14:31.440
not really our problem. We're campus police, and that was

207
00:14:31.480 --> 00:14:35.840
where that stopped. Now. When doctor Finton took the stand

208
00:14:36.120 --> 00:14:40.639
in the trial for this case, she did testify that

209
00:14:41.080 --> 00:14:44.799
she did not alert James's mother nor the police that

210
00:14:44.879 --> 00:14:49.279
he had made threats or exhibited any desires to kill anyone,

211
00:14:49.360 --> 00:14:52.879
even though he told her he had this secret desire

212
00:14:52.919 --> 00:14:56.320
to kill people. She testified in court it was due

213
00:14:56.399 --> 00:15:01.879
to his lack of revealing any specific place, land or intent.

214
00:15:02.639 --> 00:15:05.399
I don't know intent. When you tell somebody you've had

215
00:15:05.440 --> 00:15:08.879
these thoughts, that's kind of intent to me. But I

216
00:15:08.919 --> 00:15:11.639
guess what she was saying was he didn't sit down

217
00:15:11.679 --> 00:15:14.200
with her and say, Okay, I plan to go to

218
00:15:14.240 --> 00:15:15.000
a movie theater.

219
00:15:15.399 --> 00:15:23.159
For example, Jim, did you see what happened in Texas today?

220
00:15:23.399 --> 00:15:25.879
Wait before you tell me that, let me tell you

221
00:15:25.960 --> 00:15:27.120
what happened in New York.

222
00:15:27.279 --> 00:15:29.080
It cannot be as crazy as the case I told

223
00:15:29.120 --> 00:15:30.679
you about yesterday in Louisiana.

224
00:15:30.840 --> 00:15:33.759
You know what, we should do a podcast about it.

225
00:15:33.960 --> 00:15:36.840
And with that we did. Crime War Weekly covers the

226
00:15:36.879 --> 00:15:39.080
crime news headlines that have dominated the week.

227
00:15:39.240 --> 00:15:42.759
We cover trending crimes from all over the country and

228
00:15:42.919 --> 00:15:45.279
even sprinkle in a few globally.

229
00:15:45.480 --> 00:15:48.159
Crime War Weekly is available now wherever you listen to

230
00:15:48.200 --> 00:15:49.720
your podcasts.

231
00:15:49.080 --> 00:15:52.879
Simply by searching Crime War Weekly or clicking the link

232
00:15:53.080 --> 00:16:02.519
in the description of this podcast. Now, because we are

233
00:16:02.559 --> 00:16:05.159
on the subject of doctor finton I want to go

234
00:16:05.200 --> 00:16:10.480
ahead and mention this. The day before this twisted individual

235
00:16:10.840 --> 00:16:15.120
decided he wanted to go kill a bunch of innocent people,

236
00:16:15.799 --> 00:16:22.120
James Holmes mails an entire notebook, a manifesto, if you will,

237
00:16:22.639 --> 00:16:27.840
to the attention of doctor Finton. Now, inside of this notebook,

238
00:16:27.879 --> 00:16:31.480
which was fifty six pages, it was front and back,

239
00:16:31.600 --> 00:16:34.879
so it was twenty three pages both written front and back.

240
00:16:35.120 --> 00:16:39.320
Every plan you could imagine in what I'm going to

241
00:16:39.360 --> 00:16:42.720
tell you about that occurred later on. What did this

242
00:16:42.879 --> 00:16:47.399
notebook contain? Well, I'll cover some of the ramblings, if

243
00:16:47.440 --> 00:16:50.840
you will, that were inside of this notebook. There were

244
00:16:50.840 --> 00:16:55.840
some philosophical ramblings. So basically this notebook opens with big

245
00:16:56.080 --> 00:17:02.000
handwritten questions that read like a torment in philosophy student,

246
00:17:02.159 --> 00:17:05.279
if you will, a journal of some sort, things like

247
00:17:05.400 --> 00:17:08.160
what is the meaning of life? What is the meaning

248
00:17:08.200 --> 00:17:11.720
of death? Can a person have both no value and

249
00:17:11.839 --> 00:17:17.640
be ultimately good and or ultimately evil in value? These

250
00:17:17.680 --> 00:17:21.160
were questions that were written inside this notebook. He had

251
00:17:21.200 --> 00:17:25.920
wrote the word why two hundred and forty seven times

252
00:17:26.400 --> 00:17:29.759
across eight pages, just the word why. He also had

253
00:17:29.799 --> 00:17:33.960
some pretty cryptic lines in there, including the mind is

254
00:17:34.039 --> 00:17:37.720
a prison of uncertainty. He had another one that said,

255
00:17:37.759 --> 00:17:42.319
to all problems death death multiplying both sides of an

256
00:17:42.359 --> 00:17:47.839
equation by zero. When mankind can't find truth, untruth is

257
00:17:47.880 --> 00:17:51.680
converted to truth via violence. I mean, just some weird shit.

258
00:17:52.240 --> 00:17:55.559
Another one said, the reason why life should exist is

259
00:17:55.599 --> 00:18:00.559
as arbitrary as the reason why it shouldn't. Life shouldn't exist.

260
00:18:01.119 --> 00:18:04.640
And these sections of the notebook were filled with like

261
00:18:04.759 --> 00:18:09.920
stick figured doodles, symbols, They had fragmented sentences. They were

262
00:18:09.960 --> 00:18:15.039
just very bizarre scribblings all over these pages. Now prominent

263
00:18:15.279 --> 00:18:19.440
section of that notebook was labeled self diagnosis of a

264
00:18:19.640 --> 00:18:24.440
Broken Mind, and Holmes list possible conditions that he had

265
00:18:24.519 --> 00:18:30.599
kind of self diagnosed himself with, including schizophrenia, adjustment disorder,

266
00:18:31.000 --> 00:18:36.799
restless leg syndrome, and other vague entries that he had

267
00:18:36.839 --> 00:18:40.480
In there. He wrote in length about trying to rehabilitate

268
00:18:40.640 --> 00:18:44.599
the broken mind through neuroscience, but he said he concluded

269
00:18:44.640 --> 00:18:48.440
his soul must be eviscerated to fix it. He described

270
00:18:48.480 --> 00:18:53.039
a decade long obsession to kill in a long standing

271
00:18:53.160 --> 00:18:57.839
hatred of mankind. He called people sheeple, and he also

272
00:18:58.000 --> 00:19:02.720
listed alternatives to death, and he put ignore the problem.

273
00:19:03.079 --> 00:19:05.720
He talked about the obsession to kill, and he said

274
00:19:05.759 --> 00:19:10.359
he considered nuclear or biological bombs, serial killings, and other

275
00:19:10.480 --> 00:19:15.920
mass murder casualty methods before checking mass murder slash spree

276
00:19:16.680 --> 00:19:19.559
as the winner, if you will, the one that he

277
00:19:19.640 --> 00:19:22.359
had chose to do. He had a notation that said

278
00:19:22.480 --> 00:19:27.839
maximum casualties easily perform with firearms, although prontive in nature,

279
00:19:28.119 --> 00:19:32.599
no fear of consequences being caught is ninety nine percent certain.

280
00:19:33.000 --> 00:19:37.640
Then under that he had venue options airport, and then

281
00:19:37.680 --> 00:19:41.599
he had notes underneath that that said substantial security too

282
00:19:41.680 --> 00:19:45.839
much of a terrorist history. Terrorism isn't the message. The

283
00:19:45.920 --> 00:19:49.680
message is there is no message. Then he had national

284
00:19:49.799 --> 00:19:53.839
force and he put rejected too personal and yields too

285
00:19:53.920 --> 00:19:58.359
few kills. And then lastly he had movie theater, which

286
00:19:58.440 --> 00:20:01.599
is obviously what he chose, and he put what better

287
00:20:01.680 --> 00:20:07.640
place to case than that of an inconspicuous entertainment facility.

288
00:20:07.839 --> 00:20:11.039
Then underneath that it said case the place. And he

289
00:20:11.240 --> 00:20:16.000
was in this section detailing all this research he did

290
00:20:16.079 --> 00:20:18.359
on what he was going to commit, and it said

291
00:20:18.559 --> 00:20:23.160
south side of theater optimal fifteen screens theater ten and

292
00:20:23.279 --> 00:20:27.799
twelve were circled as best targets in complex and then

293
00:20:27.960 --> 00:20:31.759
he marked the best parking spot for his car. He

294
00:20:31.920 --> 00:20:37.599
had victim clustering notes in there, saying many initial persons

295
00:20:37.680 --> 00:20:40.839
packed into a single area. He even had mapped out

296
00:20:40.880 --> 00:20:45.519
an escape route. He had even put in the response

297
00:20:45.599 --> 00:20:49.559
time estimated by police, which he had three minutes as

298
00:20:49.599 --> 00:20:54.960
the estimated response time. He would have stick figure victims

299
00:20:55.680 --> 00:21:01.039
drew in this notebook he had theaters with and he

300
00:21:01.079 --> 00:21:04.319
would have notes like too many exits. He would have

301
00:21:04.359 --> 00:21:08.359
notes like reminders to practice shooting at the range, and

302
00:21:08.400 --> 00:21:12.119
he even listed the weapons and the ammunition that he

303
00:21:12.200 --> 00:21:15.160
had already acquired. So it goes without saying that at

304
00:21:15.160 --> 00:21:19.200
this point James Holmes is completely off the rails, and

305
00:21:19.279 --> 00:21:25.519
on July nineteenth of twenty twelve, he makes his final preparations.

306
00:21:25.920 --> 00:21:29.960
He photographed his ballistic gear, if you will, including a

307
00:21:30.079 --> 00:21:35.119
gas mask, two tear gas canisters, a bulletproof vest, a shotgun,

308
00:21:35.400 --> 00:21:39.039
an AR fifteen, a glock pistol, as well as a

309
00:21:39.119 --> 00:21:42.279
ton of ammo. He lays all this stuff out on

310
00:21:42.359 --> 00:21:45.039
his bed and he takes a picture as if he

311
00:21:45.200 --> 00:21:48.200
were freaking proud of what he was about to do,

312
00:21:48.759 --> 00:21:52.880
and he wanted to memorialize this moment. This was at

313
00:21:53.119 --> 00:21:56.960
five seventeen that day, at six point twenty two pm,

314
00:21:57.440 --> 00:21:59.960
he takes a selfie and at this point he had

315
00:22:00.119 --> 00:22:04.000
dyed his hair orange and he had twisted the front

316
00:22:04.160 --> 00:22:07.920
of his hair to look like two horns coming out

317
00:22:07.960 --> 00:22:11.519
of his head Satanic style. Right. He then goes about

318
00:22:11.559 --> 00:22:16.880
the task of wiring his apartment home alone style, but

319
00:22:17.039 --> 00:22:21.119
with real weapons. I'm talking trip wires that would set

320
00:22:21.160 --> 00:22:25.640
off homemade bombs, et cetera. Just prior to walking out

321
00:22:25.680 --> 00:22:29.119
the door, he does one more thing. He sets his

322
00:22:29.279 --> 00:22:34.920
computer to blast techno music thirty minutes after he leaves

323
00:22:35.079 --> 00:22:39.599
the house. Now, this is designed by plan in the

324
00:22:39.640 --> 00:22:43.680
mind of James Holmes. He actually wanted to lure police

325
00:22:44.240 --> 00:22:48.559
to his apartment and all those explosives that he had

326
00:22:48.640 --> 00:22:52.039
set inside would go off as soon as they walked

327
00:22:52.079 --> 00:22:55.960
in the door. And then at eleven thirty pm, James

328
00:22:56.000 --> 00:23:01.440
Holmes arise at the Century sixteen movie theater. Now he

329
00:23:01.519 --> 00:23:06.200
had three tickets to Batman the Dark Knight Rises and

330
00:23:06.240 --> 00:23:09.400
it was showing in two theaters, most popular movie of

331
00:23:09.440 --> 00:23:12.160
the summer, and this was like opening night for it.

332
00:23:12.400 --> 00:23:15.160
In the theaters it was showing him were Theater eight

333
00:23:15.400 --> 00:23:19.200
in Theater nine. Now, he had done a ton of

334
00:23:19.359 --> 00:23:23.079
research on these two particular theaters, and in the end

335
00:23:23.279 --> 00:23:28.279
he chose Theater nine to the ability to handcuff one

336
00:23:28.359 --> 00:23:33.119
side of the double doors shut. However, the tickets to

337
00:23:33.279 --> 00:23:37.559
theater nine were sold out. He tried three times to

338
00:23:37.640 --> 00:23:42.119
get theater nine tickets, and he kept getting Theater eight,

339
00:23:42.519 --> 00:23:45.880
thus the three tickets. And I want to explain that

340
00:23:46.000 --> 00:23:49.240
real quick. He was buying these tickets online and it

341
00:23:49.279 --> 00:23:52.519
wouldn't let you choose the theater. It was such a

342
00:23:52.519 --> 00:23:56.200
popular movie. And this was twenty twelve, it's not today,

343
00:23:56.680 --> 00:24:00.000
so you could choose tickets, but it would just automatically

344
00:24:00.160 --> 00:24:04.920
give you what's available. And because Theater nine was sold out,

345
00:24:04.960 --> 00:24:07.759
he just couldn't get tickets. He tried three times. So

346
00:24:07.799 --> 00:24:12.119
at eleven fifty five he goes inside of that theater

347
00:24:12.480 --> 00:24:16.279
and at twelve oh three am he's captured by surveillance

348
00:24:16.359 --> 00:24:20.759
cameras walking past concessions into Theater nine. And the way

349
00:24:20.799 --> 00:24:23.319
he explained this later on was even though he had

350
00:24:23.400 --> 00:24:28.039
tickets to Theater eight, the concession stand was actually located

351
00:24:28.079 --> 00:24:32.119
on Theater nine side. So he just went there and

352
00:24:33.119 --> 00:24:36.240
mingled around that concession stand for a minute, and then

353
00:24:36.279 --> 00:24:39.559
he went into Theater nine, because they only checked your

354
00:24:39.599 --> 00:24:44.319
tickets at the front of the entire complex, not when

355
00:24:44.359 --> 00:24:46.920
you get inside. So as he goes in Theater nine,

356
00:24:46.960 --> 00:24:49.839
he spots an empty seat on the front row, and

357
00:24:49.920 --> 00:24:53.319
he sits down for a few minutes, and the previews start,

358
00:24:54.000 --> 00:24:57.559
and as they're playing, he gets up out of his seats. Now,

359
00:24:57.640 --> 00:25:01.599
witnesses would say later that he appeared like he was

360
00:25:01.640 --> 00:25:04.839
taking a phone call. Now we now know that this

361
00:25:04.960 --> 00:25:07.720
is fake, that he made this up. He just kind

362
00:25:07.720 --> 00:25:09.559
of picked up his phone, put it up to his

363
00:25:09.640 --> 00:25:12.160
ear as if he was getting a call, and started

364
00:25:12.240 --> 00:25:15.240
pacing out of the theater. It's part of the plan.

365
00:25:15.799 --> 00:25:18.400
He then goes to the left side of the theater,

366
00:25:18.519 --> 00:25:21.279
where it's like a cubby. No one else can see you.

367
00:25:21.359 --> 00:25:24.039
And I want you to picture this. One side of

368
00:25:24.039 --> 00:25:28.319
that hallway that cubby led to the lobby of the theater,

369
00:25:28.960 --> 00:25:33.440
and the other side is an emergency exit, and he

370
00:25:33.599 --> 00:25:38.000
goes out of that emergency exit and right in front

371
00:25:38.000 --> 00:25:40.640
of it. Because he had planned all this out, his

372
00:25:40.759 --> 00:25:43.480
car is part so as he's walking out that door,

373
00:25:43.839 --> 00:25:48.160
he props it open just slightly with a tablecloth holder,

374
00:25:48.680 --> 00:25:51.440
and that was obviously, so it would not shut and

375
00:25:51.680 --> 00:25:56.279
lock behind him. Now, this is about twenty minutes into

376
00:25:56.559 --> 00:26:01.480
the movie. Upon entering his car home, start changing into

377
00:26:01.599 --> 00:26:05.680
that ballistic gear that he had photographed on that bed right,

378
00:26:06.160 --> 00:26:12.759
a helmet, a gas mask, bulletproof vest, even bulletproof growing guards,

379
00:26:12.960 --> 00:26:17.559
and leggings. He armed himself with all three guns the

380
00:26:17.680 --> 00:26:22.359
hour or fifteen, the shotgun and the pistol. Now about

381
00:26:22.599 --> 00:26:27.839
midway through changing in his cramped car, two employees actually

382
00:26:27.960 --> 00:26:32.240
walk right by him to throw some trash out, But

383
00:26:32.400 --> 00:26:37.000
James Holmes was well concealed. He had dark tinted windows

384
00:26:37.279 --> 00:26:40.400
for his vehicle, and he had taken a sunshade and

385
00:26:40.480 --> 00:26:44.319
he had placed that across the front windshield, even though

386
00:26:44.359 --> 00:26:47.079
it was after midnight. And he would say later to

387
00:26:47.160 --> 00:26:50.839
a psychiatrist that had they saw him, he would have

388
00:26:51.000 --> 00:26:54.440
killed them. And he actually had his pistol trained on

389
00:26:54.559 --> 00:26:58.200
them the entire time they were out there. Now, once

390
00:26:58.319 --> 00:27:02.519
they went back inside, he completed putting on his gear,

391
00:27:03.079 --> 00:27:07.000
and he did one final thing before he exited that car.

392
00:27:07.319 --> 00:27:12.039
He actually dials and he calls a crisis hotline. Now,

393
00:27:12.160 --> 00:27:15.599
James would say later he called in the hopes someone

394
00:27:15.599 --> 00:27:18.000
could talk him out of what he was about to do.

395
00:27:18.640 --> 00:27:21.920
He claimed no one answered, that he never heard anything.

396
00:27:22.440 --> 00:27:24.640
He held the phone to his ear for nine seconds

397
00:27:24.640 --> 00:27:29.160
and then just hung up. However, records indicates someone did

398
00:27:29.240 --> 00:27:32.599
answer and that he hung up on that person. At

399
00:27:32.599 --> 00:27:36.400
that point, he places in his earbuds and he turns

400
00:27:36.559 --> 00:27:43.119
up techno music full blast, and he exits his vehicle. Now,

401
00:27:43.319 --> 00:27:47.160
as soon as he steps out, he drops one of

402
00:27:47.200 --> 00:27:51.799
the two tear gas canisters he had. Now, at this point,

403
00:27:51.960 --> 00:27:55.119
he's geared up to the max. He can barely see

404
00:27:55.200 --> 00:27:58.160
due to the gas mask he had on, and it

405
00:27:58.240 --> 00:28:02.400
actually had scratches on it, so it really affected his vision.

406
00:28:02.920 --> 00:28:06.119
So he kind of panics for a second. He hardly

407
00:28:06.200 --> 00:28:10.160
looks around for this rolling tear gas canister of all things,

408
00:28:10.640 --> 00:28:13.920
but he can't find it. He then proceeds back to

409
00:28:14.000 --> 00:28:18.119
the emergency exit that he went out of, and there's

410
00:28:18.160 --> 00:28:21.039
a little corner there where nobody can see you, and

411
00:28:21.079 --> 00:28:24.799
he kind of stands there for about thirty seconds, almost

412
00:28:24.880 --> 00:28:27.400
like he was debating do I really want to do

413
00:28:27.480 --> 00:28:31.720
this or not? Well, he decides to do it, and

414
00:28:31.799 --> 00:28:37.200
at twelve thirty eight am he re enters that building

415
00:28:37.640 --> 00:28:41.200
through the emergency exit into the theater. Now as soon

416
00:28:41.240 --> 00:28:45.160
as he steps back in that theater, he throws the

417
00:28:45.279 --> 00:28:49.359
tear gas canister that he didn't lose into the crowd

418
00:28:49.640 --> 00:28:53.160
in this place is freaking packed to the gills. Every

419
00:28:53.240 --> 00:28:57.160
seat is taken in this four hundred seat theater by

420
00:28:57.160 --> 00:29:02.599
this point. Now, many people saw this canister flying over

421
00:29:02.680 --> 00:29:05.319
the crowd, and it had smoke coming out of it

422
00:29:05.680 --> 00:29:08.279
at that point, but they assumed this was some sort

423
00:29:08.319 --> 00:29:11.880
of teenage prank. I mean, you got this guy standing there,

424
00:29:11.920 --> 00:29:14.799
he's geared up as if he's going to war, and

425
00:29:14.839 --> 00:29:17.440
he's got orange hair, and he throws something in the

426
00:29:17.480 --> 00:29:20.279
air with smoke coming behind it. I don't think anyone

427
00:29:20.319 --> 00:29:25.119
would automatically assume it was as serious as it actually was.

428
00:29:25.400 --> 00:29:28.519
They assumed it was like fireworks or a smoke bomb

429
00:29:28.640 --> 00:29:35.200
of some sort. But that thought left everyone's mind in

430
00:29:35.279 --> 00:29:40.039
there within just a few seconds, when Holmes opens fire

431
00:29:40.440 --> 00:29:45.160
with that shotgun, he fires off all six shells that

432
00:29:45.240 --> 00:29:50.720
were loaded in that shotgun in rapid succession. Then as

433
00:29:50.880 --> 00:29:55.640
quickly as you could think, he switches to that AR fifteen,

434
00:29:55.799 --> 00:30:01.000
which was loaded with one hundred rounds, and he quickly

435
00:30:01.559 --> 00:30:10.759
fires off sixty five rounds before the gun suddenly jams. Now,

436
00:30:11.000 --> 00:30:15.640
during this time, it is absolute chaos in that theater.

437
00:30:15.839 --> 00:30:20.559
People are screaming, they're trampling over one another, trying to run.

438
00:30:21.160 --> 00:30:24.720
Someone at some point trips a fire alarm, and with

439
00:30:24.839 --> 00:30:30.200
the AR fifteen jammed, Holmes calmly retreats to the right

440
00:30:30.279 --> 00:30:34.160
side of that theater hallway that leads out to the theater,

441
00:30:34.759 --> 00:30:37.359
where he is just out of the line of sight

442
00:30:37.640 --> 00:30:41.440
of those inside. And at this point a family of

443
00:30:41.599 --> 00:30:45.480
three they see this as an opportunity. They think maybe

444
00:30:45.480 --> 00:30:48.559
he left and they wanted to get the hell out

445
00:30:48.599 --> 00:30:51.920
of there, so they make a run for it, thinking

446
00:30:51.960 --> 00:30:55.359
that Holmes went out the emergency exit, and they turn

447
00:30:55.440 --> 00:30:58.200
in the hallway to go run to the theater lobby,

448
00:30:58.759 --> 00:31:02.920
and they run right into James Holmes. Now at this

449
00:31:03.119 --> 00:31:06.440
point he's working on that AR fifteen, trying to get

450
00:31:06.480 --> 00:31:11.519
it unjammed, but he has his forty caliber pistol in

451
00:31:11.599 --> 00:31:16.359
his hand and he fires off three shots, hitting all

452
00:31:16.839 --> 00:31:21.680
three people. They are all shot, but they managed to

453
00:31:21.839 --> 00:31:26.640
escape past him. Now, at this point, literally hundreds of

454
00:31:26.680 --> 00:31:31.440
calls are placed into nine one one, And initially I

455
00:31:31.519 --> 00:31:34.640
was going to play a few of those calls for you. However,

456
00:31:35.680 --> 00:31:39.960
these are so disturbing. I just decided not to. If

457
00:31:39.960 --> 00:31:43.079
you want to hear him, a simple Google search will

458
00:31:43.119 --> 00:31:46.000
pull up some nine one one calls and you can

459
00:31:46.079 --> 00:31:49.079
listen to him. But it was just too disturbing. I

460
00:31:49.079 --> 00:31:51.519
didn't want to put it out there. Now, the shooting

461
00:31:51.559 --> 00:31:56.480
itself only lasted one to two minutes. It was that quick.

462
00:31:57.079 --> 00:32:01.319
Police arrived just ninety seconds after the first nine to

463
00:32:01.359 --> 00:32:03.839
one one call. But in this short amount of time

464
00:32:04.400 --> 00:32:09.960
the damaged homes managed to inflect was staggering. He fired

465
00:32:10.000 --> 00:32:16.680
off seventy six shots total from those three weapons. Twelve

466
00:32:16.720 --> 00:32:22.480
people were killed, including a six year old girl. Now,

467
00:32:22.519 --> 00:32:28.240
several of these people died while shielding other people from

468
00:32:28.279 --> 00:32:33.519
the bullets. Seventy people were injured. Fifty eight of those

469
00:32:34.000 --> 00:32:38.960
were injured as a result of direct gunfire. Another twelve

470
00:32:39.039 --> 00:32:42.640
were injured as a result of the tear gas or

471
00:32:43.000 --> 00:32:46.799
being trampled on. Out of that theater. Now, after the

472
00:32:46.880 --> 00:32:52.240
shooting stopped, James Holmes simply strolled back out of that

473
00:32:52.359 --> 00:32:58.119
emergency exited where two police officers walked right by him.

474
00:32:58.960 --> 00:33:02.880
They assumed he was police due to being geared up

475
00:33:03.400 --> 00:33:07.000
in all this ballistics gear. He walks to his car.

476
00:33:07.759 --> 00:33:12.359
He lays his weapons inside and he raises his arms

477
00:33:12.400 --> 00:33:16.160
in a surrender position in the air. Police took note

478
00:33:16.240 --> 00:33:20.920
of this, realized this is the fucking guy, and they

479
00:33:21.000 --> 00:33:27.200
place him into custody. Now. Once in custody, shockingly and

480
00:33:27.319 --> 00:33:32.759
thank god, he did tell police his apartment was wired

481
00:33:33.000 --> 00:33:37.759
with explosives, which, due to the use of robots and

482
00:33:37.799 --> 00:33:42.039
some other means, it took police over twenty four hours

483
00:33:42.079 --> 00:33:46.039
to even make entry into his apartment. They also found

484
00:33:46.039 --> 00:33:50.720
in this car tire tax to pop tires, as well

485
00:33:50.759 --> 00:33:54.559
as a first aid kit, alerting police that he had

486
00:33:54.759 --> 00:33:57.000
planned on a police chase and he was going to

487
00:33:57.079 --> 00:33:59.960
toss his tire tax out and he had a first aid.

488
00:34:00.039 --> 00:34:02.599
He's a kid. I guess if he gotten a wreck

489
00:34:02.720 --> 00:34:05.400
or something, he could doctor himself back up. So they

490
00:34:05.440 --> 00:34:09.679
bring him into the interrogation room and they bag his hands,

491
00:34:09.880 --> 00:34:12.599
and the reason that they do this is to secure

492
00:34:12.639 --> 00:34:16.679
any GSR residue, gunshot residue that he may have on

493
00:34:16.760 --> 00:34:20.800
his hands. And you can tell during this point the

494
00:34:20.880 --> 00:34:24.360
cops they were doing everything they could not kill this guy,

495
00:34:24.599 --> 00:34:28.119
and understandably so, I mean, you can tell they got

496
00:34:28.159 --> 00:34:31.000
a ton of disdain for this clown. As they are

497
00:34:31.000 --> 00:34:35.320
bagging his hands. So this punk is sitting there with

498
00:34:35.480 --> 00:34:38.559
these bags on his hands, and what do you think

499
00:34:38.599 --> 00:34:42.239
he's doing? He starts doing hand puppets back and forth

500
00:34:42.320 --> 00:34:46.079
with the bags. Talk about someone that doesn't realize the

501
00:34:46.239 --> 00:34:50.280
evil of what he just did. Now, they did attempt

502
00:34:50.360 --> 00:34:54.079
to interrogate him. However, as soon as they read him

503
00:34:54.079 --> 00:34:57.639
his rights in the interrogation room, he invokes his right

504
00:34:57.719 --> 00:35:01.639
to remain silent. He basically said, I an attorney, and

505
00:35:01.679 --> 00:35:04.719
I want a quarter pointed attorney. It requests a lawyer.

506
00:35:05.119 --> 00:35:08.079
And at that point you got to stop questioning or

507
00:35:08.119 --> 00:35:11.960
whatever he says is inadmissible in court. So police stopped him.

508
00:35:12.280 --> 00:35:16.519
He got his lawyer. Eventually this goes to trial and

509
00:35:16.599 --> 00:35:20.000
in the end he has found guilty and he is

510
00:35:20.079 --> 00:35:26.960
sentenced to twelve life sentences plus three thousand, three hundred

511
00:35:27.280 --> 00:35:31.079
and eighteen years in prison. And it wrapped up quickly

512
00:35:31.159 --> 00:35:33.639
for a case of this size. That was in twenty

513
00:35:33.679 --> 00:35:37.119
twelve that he actually got convicted. Now, in that trial,

514
00:35:37.360 --> 00:35:41.159
key evidence, just a quick sypnosis of that. They had

515
00:35:41.239 --> 00:35:45.320
survivor testimony, they had videos, they had that notebook that

516
00:35:45.360 --> 00:35:50.440
I told you about. Obviously a ton of psychiatric exam evidence,

517
00:35:50.920 --> 00:35:54.440
and you may wonder why no death penalty in this case,

518
00:35:55.119 --> 00:36:00.639
And according to jurors statements after the trial, they failed

519
00:36:00.679 --> 00:36:05.079
to unanimously agree on the death penalty due to his

520
00:36:05.360 --> 00:36:09.159
documented mental illness. Whether you agree with that or not,

521
00:36:09.639 --> 00:36:12.440
that was the case there and why he didn't get

522
00:36:12.480 --> 00:36:17.079
the death penalty. Now, after his trial, he's in jail forever. Right.

523
00:36:17.280 --> 00:36:23.079
He's initially held in Colorado's state facilities, and in twenty

524
00:36:23.199 --> 00:36:27.000
fifteen he gets assaulted by another inmate, and so at

525
00:36:27.000 --> 00:36:31.199
that point they move him. They transfer him to federal custody,

526
00:36:31.320 --> 00:36:35.960
and he gets housed at USB United States Prison Allenwood

527
00:36:36.400 --> 00:36:39.360
in Pennsylvania, and he was housed in what's not as

528
00:36:39.519 --> 00:36:46.199
protective isolation due to his obvious notoriety. Look, people will

529
00:36:46.239 --> 00:36:49.599
get major points if they kill that guy other prisoners,

530
00:36:50.000 --> 00:36:53.199
so that's why he's housed there. He spends twenty three

531
00:36:53.239 --> 00:36:57.119
hours per day confined to his cell. He has no

532
00:36:57.320 --> 00:37:01.920
contact with other inmates and has it he has refused

533
00:37:02.079 --> 00:37:05.679
any sort of visits, even from his own family. And

534
00:37:05.719 --> 00:37:09.159
you know what, it's my opinion that he deserves every

535
00:37:09.239 --> 00:37:13.360
single thing that he has gotten. This is one of

536
00:37:13.400 --> 00:37:20.199
the most horrific individuals that I have covered yet. And

537
00:37:20.239 --> 00:37:24.280
he deserves every bit of sitting in that cell twenty

538
00:37:24.280 --> 00:37:28.440
three hours a day. In my opinion. Of course, families

539
00:37:28.480 --> 00:37:32.519
were affected by this over you know, hundreds of thousands,

540
00:37:32.559 --> 00:37:36.679
the whole community of Colorado was affected by this horrific shooting.

541
00:37:36.719 --> 00:37:40.519
My thoughts, prayers, hearts go out to all of the victims,

542
00:37:40.880 --> 00:37:44.280
all of the victim's family, friends, and everybody in the

543
00:37:44.320 --> 00:37:49.800
Colorado community that was affected. What a horrific, senseless, fucking,

544
00:37:49.960 --> 00:37:56.960
senseless tragedy taking place in twenty twelve in Colorado. But

545
00:37:57.079 --> 00:38:00.159
there you have it. That is fifty shades of the

546
00:38:00.199 --> 00:38:04.000
Evil Colorado. I want to thank everybody for listening. Check
